Taking the Plunge: Our Journey to Full-Time RV Living

When we sold our family home last May, we downsized to a 3-bedroom apartment as a stepping stone to becoming full-time RVers. Well, it’s been a year, and our apartment lease is up. It’s finally time to take the plunge into full-time RV living!

Wrapping Up Our Time in Hot Springs, AR

Our journey to this point has been nothing short of adventurous. After a fantastic trip to Hot Springs, AR, we headed back to our apartment to pack up and transition to life on the road. Hot Springs was a great send-off with its beautiful scenery and the fun we had at Catherine’s Landing.

The Final Push: Packing Up the Apartment

Packing up the apartment was no small feat. It’s amazing how much stuff you can accumulate in a year, even when you’re trying to downsize. We played a game of Tetris, fitting our things into every nook and cranny of the RV. Shelly managed to find a way to keep her dressing table with lights, and I somehow found space for some of my favorite scotch and tequila from my growing collection. Shout out to my sister, Marie, for helping us pack up. She's our own "Marie Kondo"!

Celebrating Kyle’s Graduation

Amidst all the packing and preparations, we also hosted a graduation party for our son, Kyle, in College Station. He graduated in May from Texas A&M with a mechanical engineering degree. It was a proud moment for the whole family. After celebrating his achievement, we packed up his college apartment and caravanned to his new home in Albuquerque, where he landed his first job. We crammed a lot into those three weeks, but seeing Kyle start his new chapter made it all worth it.

Embracing Minimalism

One of the biggest challenges was embracing minimalism. It’s a fancy way of saying we had to get rid of a lot of stuff. But honestly, it was refreshing. There’s something liberating about letting go of things you don’t really need. Plus, it makes the RV feel a lot more spacious. Who knew we didn’t need three different sets of measuring cups?

With our new lifestyle, we prioritize experiences over possessions, to adapt to new situations quickly, and to appreciate the small joys of life on the road. We also realize that home is not a place but a feeling, and as long as we’re together, we’re home.

Closing a Chapter

Our journey to full-time RV living has been a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences. From selling our family home to downsizing to an apartment, our many trips over the last year, and finally making the plunge into full-time RV life, every step has been worth it. We’re excited to continue to share our adventures with you on 2kidsatheart.com as we continue travel the country, explore new places, and create unforgettable memories. Stay tuned for more stories from the road!

Until next time, keep spinning the wheel of adventure!

Happy RVing!
