Hey there, fellow travelers! We recently embarked on an adventure to the beautiful Gulf Shores, Alabama area, and boy, did we have an interesting time. Our base camp was the Sun City RV Park in Elberta, AL, a fairly new park that opened its doors in 2023. Let's dive into our rainy but eventful trip, including some exciting upgrades, the beach's electrifying charm reminiscent of lightning hitting sand, and the delicious eats we discovered along the way. Plus, we've got a couple of fantastic movie recommendations to share with you!

Sun City RV Park: A Gem on a Gloomy Day

Our first impression of Sun City RV Park was fantastic. All the spots were full hook-up and incredibly spacious, giving us plenty of room to stretch out and relax. The park also boasted a wonderful clubhouse and an array of amenities that made us wish we'd visited during the summer months when it's bound to be bustling with activity.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had different plans for us during our stay. It seemed like the skies couldn't stop crying, with rainy days outnumbering the sunny ones. But hey, every cloud has a silver lining. Thanks to the inclement weather, we had the chance to make some exciting upgrades to our “Beauty” (aka our rig). Shelly made the decision to convert her side of the closet into her dressing area by adding a vanity table! We trimmed the legs down to make it the perfect height for her when sitting on her vanity stool. I added lights to it make the perfect functional space for her. Wonder where she stores her clothes? She leveraged drawers and cabinets so everything is folded or rolled. For me, I took the opportunity to change out the batteries on the TPMS sensors, ensuring our journey would be smooth and safe.

Toll Trouble on the Foley Beach Express

One of the minor downsides of our Gulf Shores adventure was the $5.00 toll each way on the Foley Beach Express. A bit steep in my opinion! Luckily, we did some exploring and found a way to avoid the toll altogether.

Exploring the Gulf Shores: A Sweet Home Alabama Vibe with Electrifying Beach Lighting

Despite the rainy weather, we managed to make the most of our time in Gulf Shores. We treated ourselves to a movie night at The Wharf, visited the visitor center to get a lay of the land, and even braved the weather to explore Orange Beach. Speaking of the beach, it had a certain charm that reminded us of the movie, "Sweet Home Alabama." The beach lighting was not soft and gentle; it was loud and close, evoking the image of lightning hitting sand and forming glass. This electrifying spectacle added a unique and unforgettable dimension to our beach strolls, making them truly magical.

One evening, we ventured to Bamahenge, a cool replica of Stonehenge made out of fiberglass. In addition to the Stonehenge replica, Bamahenge also featured lifelike dinosaurs, adding an fun twist to our evening adventure.

Culinary Delights at Cosmos and Zeke’s

Now, let's talk about the culinary highlights of our trip. We had the pleasure of dining at two outstanding establishments on the island: Cosmo’s and Zeke's. Both restaurants offered incredible food and wonderful atmospheres that made our rainy days brighter.

Cosmo’s had a standout dish in the form of their banana leaf-wrapped Seabass. The fish practically melted in our mouths, and we couldn't recommend it enough. If you're a seafood lover, this dish is a must-try.

Zeke's, on the other hand, had a special treat for us during our visit: their version of surf and turf on a kebab. Picture fillet and shrimp skewered together and grilled to perfection. It was tasty, though we might something different if we were to return.

Enjoying Movie Magic

During our stay, we also enjoyed catching a couple of movies, "Boys in the Boat" and "Anyone but You” - making the most out of the gloomy Gulf Shores weather with our movie nights.

While the rain persisted through our entire visit to Gulf Shores, it was still a good time. We enjoyed our stay at Sun City RV Park, managed to outsmart the toll on the Foley Beach Express, explored the area's attractions, indulged in mouthwatering dishes at Cosmo’s and Zeke's, and enjoyed some movie magic. If you're in the mood for great movies, be sure to give "Boys in the Boat" and "Anyone but You" a watch.

Until next time, keep spinning the wheel of adventure!

Happy RVing!
