Welcome to our latest adventure in the charming city of Charleston, South Carolina! We spent the day checking out historic landmarks, the beautiful waterfront , and some great food!
Our day began at the Charleston KOA Holiday, where we set up camp for our Charleston adventure. With our home base established, we wasted no time diving into the heart of downtown Charleston.
First stop: The Citadel, the esteemed military college of South Carolina. As we drove through the campus, we couldn’t help but be impressed by its pristine beauty and the disciplined cadets in their various uniforms. It was a campus unlike any other, and we were glad to have experienced it.
Next on our agenda was Joe Riley Waterfront Park, a picturesque oasis along the harbor. We took a leisurely stroll along the riverfront path, admiring the sailboats and catching a glimpse of the mighty USS Yorktown. The highlight? The iconic Pineapple Fountain, a symbol of southern hospitality where kids splashed and played to their heart’s content.
From there, we wandered to Rainbow Row, a row of 13 vibrant pastel-painted townhouses that captivated us with their historic charm. Then, it was off to Charleston City Market, a bustling hub of activity with over 300 vendor booths offering everything from handmade jewelry to local delicacies.
As the sun began to set, our stomachs led us to Church and Union for dinner and drinks. Housed in a beautiful old church, the ambiance was as unique as the cuisine. Chef Jamie Lynch’s Top Chef pedigree did not disappoint, and our taste buds were in for a treat.
Despite arriving a tad early for dinner service, we couldn’t resist sampling the midday menu. The Pei Mussels were a revelation, bursting with flavor and accompanied by perfectly toasted sourdough. The salads were equally delightful – fresh, vibrant, and packed with unique flavors. When dinner time rolled around, we indulged in Chef Jamie’s Lamb Burger, a mouthwatering masterpiece topped with red onion marmalade and gorgonzola fondue. And let’s not forget the sides – brussels sprouts, glazed broccoli, and baked mac and cheese that had us reaching for seconds.
With our bellies full and our spirits high, we wrapped up our day with a movie at Southeast Cinemas. “Ordinary Angels” provided the perfect end to an extraordinary day of exploration and culinary delights.
And so concludes our Charleston Chronicles, a day filled with discovery, deliciousness, and unforgettable memories.
Until next time, keep spinning the wheel of adventure!
Happy RVing!
